Britain rarely allows filming inside the Foreign Secretary’s office

Scenario

In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler lands a high-profile job she’s not suited for, with geographic implications for her marriage and political future. The British government has allowed real-life locations to be used as filming locations for the series, including the most recent American embassy (in Nine Elms), which opened in 2018. Credit to any film or film production, especially an American one.

Season 1 ended on a cliffhanger of gargantuan proportions

One location that wasn’t available was Winfield House, the royal residence of the American ambassador. Although it’s accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot of land in London (11 acres) outside of Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming. Featured at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024) Oh my God!

Maybe another *feel good* TV drama like Madam Secretary

I had a heart attack in the last few minutes of Season 2. I don’t know if my heart can handle 3 seasons. At first I thought this was a very important, slow-paced political drama.

Boy, was I wrong

The Diplomat will keep you on the edge of your seat every episode. Starving them like a starving animal. This is political theater at its best.

The Americans; she’s great!

It has cut throats beyond my wildest dreams. Plus, it’s still a wild ride, even if it’s only 1/10th of what actually goes on in US politics and across the various agencies (CIA, Secret Service, Diplomacy, again with a strong female lead, it reminded me of “What’s Up?”).
